今日、十二月三日は、
『Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde』1886 を書いた Robert Louis Stevenson 185094 が死に、
『Heart of Darkness』1889 を書いた Joseph Conrad 185724 が生まれた日です。、
"The horror! The horror!" とコンラッドは作中人物の死に際に呟かせます。
その呪ひのやうな呟きの、かへって増幅してくるかのやうな殘響のなかで私はこの二つの作品、ひいては西洋文學の、さらには西洋文化全體を感覺してきたやうに思ひます。
人間とは何者なのか。人間が作りだしたものは何だったのか。
この現代においては人間の典型はこの近代世界と作りだした西洋人であり、少なからず黄色人種の日本人である私もまた多分に精神的に西洋人的であること、すなはち「ジキル＆ハイド」的であることを自覺しないわけにはいかない。
しかし、一方では、白人ではない私はかうした西洋近代をどうやって克服すべきか、思ひ考へずにはゐられない。
極東の地でありながらすっかり西洋近代化した社界に生まれあはせたことの、あるいは「特權」なのかも知れない。
私には日本といふ文化があり、その日本は中國文化を含みこみ、云はば和漢洋の文化のなかで思考空想してゐる。これは稀有の文化環境ではないか。古今東西、世界史を一つに重ねあはせ、そこから新たな世界を構想する、それが敗戰後の日本に生まれあはせた者の「特權」であり「義務」のやうに自覺されたのでした。

皇帝となった彼は、ロウマ帝國の安定化に努め『3世紀の危機』と呼ばれる軍人皇帝時代を収拾した。その過程で Dominatus （専制君主制）を編みだし、Tetrarchia（四分割統治、四分治制）を導入した。また、帝国内に萬延し始めたキリスト教とマニ教にたいして弾圧を始めた。

本多忠勝154810（Honda Tadakatsu, also called Honda Heihachirō 平八郎), was a Japanese samurai, general (and later a daimyō 大名) of the late Sengoku 戰國 through early Edo 江戸 periods, who served Tokugawa Ieyasu 徳川家康154316.
Honda Tadakatsu was one of the Tokugawa Four Heavenly Kings 徳川四天王 along with Ii Naomasa 伊井直政156102, Sakakibara Yasumasa 榊原康政154806 and Sakai Tadatsugu 酒井忠次152796.

Peggy was noted for her beauty, wit and vivacity.
Her marriage to United States Senator John Henry Eaton caused some controversy, as she had been recently widowed only a few months earlier, when her husband died while at sea.

1839天保10、蛮社の獄が始まり。幕政批判の嫌疑で長英も逮捕され（自分から出頭したとする説もある）、永牢の判決を受け傳馬町の牢屋敷に収監される。

その後、各地を逃亡
江戸に舞ひ戻り、醫師を開業する。が、密告され逮捕、その時の捕物騷動のなかで毆打され虫の息となり、搬送中に絶命したらしい。

研究領域は文学･美学･史学･哲学･考古学と幅廣く「新學術」の旗手とされる。
亀甲獣骨文字の研究では羅振玉･董作賓･郭沫若とともに「甲骨四堂」と呼ばれた。

1927年、頤和園の昆明池で入水自殺。理由は不明。

山頭火は晩年の日記に「無駄に無駄を重ねたやうな一生だった、それに酒をたえず注いで、そこから句が生まれたやうな一生だった」と述懷してゐる。

彼は、ナチス思想への親近感から、弾圧されながらも亡命の道は選ばなかった。
「自分ならば、ヒトラに十二音音楽の意義を納得させることができる」とすら本氣で考へていたらしい。
晩年には「子供がコンパスと定規を使って作曲する日が来るのもさう遠いことではない」と親しい神父に語ってゐたとか。｛事實さうなった。

江戸時代末期の武士、劍術家。
旧姓は田中、幼名は甚助、通称は左右八郎、諱は直正。
「桃井春蔵」は士学館の館主が代々襲名した名跡であり、直正は四代目桃井春蔵となる。
その劍技は「品格随一」と讚へられた。

彼は妻と話しながらワインの栓を抜かうとして、脳溢血の発作を起こし、二時間後に絶息した。その遺骸はバエア山の頂に葬られ、墓碑には彼の詩が刻まれた ――

第二次世界大戦が勃発すると、日本在住のブライスは敵性外国人として収容された。日本支持を表明し、日本国籍を取得しようとしたが認められなかった。東京空襲により蔵書を失ふ。
戦後、彼は日本の戦後復興のために精力的に活動した。皇太子（今上天皇）の英語教師として雇はれ、皇室との關係1964まで続いた。
皇室との連絡調整役を務め、また彼の親友であった連合国総司令部民間情報教育局勤務の陸軍中佐 Harold Gould Henderson とともに昭和天皇の人間宣言起草に加はった。
1946年、学習院大学英文科教授となり、当時の皇太子に英語を教へた。
禅の思想と日本の詩歌、特に俳句が西洋に廣まったのはブライスの功績が大きい。
1954年、東京大学より文学博士号を授与され、1959年には勲四等瑞宝章を受章。

Himalia (/haɪˈmeɪliə/ hy-MAY-lee-ə or /hɪˈmɑːliə/ hi-MAH-lee-ə; Greek: Ἱμαλία) is the largest irregular satellite of Jupiter. It is the sixth largest Jovian satellite overall in size, and only the four Galilean moons of Jupiter have greater mass. It was discovered by Charles Dillon Perrine at the Lick Observatory on 3 December 1904 and is named after the nymph Himalia, who bore three sons of Zeus (the Greek equivalent of Jupiter).

1930/1203：フランスシネマ『黄金時代』一般公開、大騷動となる
à Paris, la Ligue des patriotes et la Ligue anti-juive saccagent le Studio 28 qui projette le film L'Âge d'or de Luis Buñuel et Salvador Dalí.

Upon receiving a cinematic exhibition permit from the Board of Censors, L'Age d'Or had its premiere presentation at Studio 28, Paris, on 29 November 1930. Later, on 3 December 1930, the great popular success of the film provoked attacks by the right-wing Ligue des Patriotes (League of Patriots), whose angry viewers took umbrage at the visual statements made by Buñuel and Dalí.
The reactionary French Patriots interrupted the screening by throwing ink at the cinema screen and assaulting viewers who opposed them. They then went to the lobby and destroyed art works by Dalí, Joan Miró, Man Ray, Yves Tanguy, and others. On 10 December 1930, the Prefect of Police of Paris, Jean Chiappe, arranged to have the film banned from further public exhibition after the Board of Censors re-reviewed the film

日本の、明治大正時代の著名弁護士、政事家に轉身。

苦學を重ね、1888明治21年に英吉利法律学校を卒業。翌々年の十二月には二十三歳で代言人（辯護士）試験に合格、当時の法曹界最年少の合格者であった。
その後、明治大正時代の多くの有名な事件の辯護人を務めて、名聲を得たが
1926大正15年の松島遊郭疑獄での被告弁護人を最後に第一線を退き、1929昭和4年には弁護士登録を抹消した。
彼は弁護士業の傍ら、1898明治31年から1917大正08年まで衆議院議員に七期連續で当選、1922大正11年からは貴族院議員に勅任された。

その死
1931昭和06年、東京神田の自宅兼事務所の寝室でガス中毒で死亡（就寝中にガス火鉢のガス管が何らかの理由で外れたため）。
