今日、五月二十三日、
日本では、流罪になってゐた源頼朝114799を決起させる機会が訪れた日であり、
その三十年後、頼朝亡き後の鎌倉幕府で、重臣らの死鬪が演じられた日でもあり、
西洋では、
フランスの Jeanne d'Arc 141231 がフランスに見捨てられてイギリスに捉へられ、
イタリアでは、異端の烙印押されて Girolamo Savonarola 145298 が火炙りになり
イギリスでは、世界中を荒らしまはる海賊となった William Kidd 164501 が絞首刑、
二十世紀になれば、
アメリカで 強盗稼業のボニー＆クライドがハチの巣になり、
ドイツでは、Heinrich Himmler 190045 が青酸カリを噛みしめ、
イタリアでは、マフィア追求の正義派判事が跡形もなく爆殺され、
フランスでは、Paul Nizan 190540 が「ボクは二十歳だった。それが人生で一番美しい年頃などとは誰にも云はせまい」と苛立たしげに呟く、
これが人間の世界、古今東西、どこもかしこもかくの如し。
これが人間だとは思ひたくないけれど、これが人間なのだ。

077後白河雅仁112792天皇の皇子、以仁王115180が平氏追討の令旨を諸國の源氏に向けて發した。伊豆國に流罪された源頼朝114799（この時三十六歳）にも、叔父にあたる源行家114186により届けられた。行家は源頼政110480に召し出され、山伏に扮して以仁王の令旨を全國に届けてゐたのである。

以仁王は頼政らと宇治に合戰して敗死したが、頼朝は傍觀して、時代の動きを見詰めてゐた。
平氏のはうがこの令旨に慌ただしく動きだし、各地の源氏の掃討を始めたことに頼朝は危機感を抱き、擧兵を決意、安達盛長を使者に板東の武家に回状した。

1213/0523(建暦03/0502)：和田一族の反亂と滅亡
和田義盛114713：相模國の名門、三浦氏の一族で武勇の譽高い御家人であった。治承壽永の亂、奥州合戰にも武功を擧げた。鎌倉幕府創業の功臣となり、侍所別當となった和田義盛は、執權職の北条義時116324と確執し、つひには姻戚関係の横山黨や同族の三浦義村??1239を頼んで北条氏打倒をめざし擧兵。戰鬪は鎌倉市中で二日に渡り續くが、土壇場で三浦義村が寢返り、將軍實朝を要する北条方が優勢となり、和田一族は力盡き、滅亡した。

源頼朝114799の歿後、鎌倉幕府内では御家人の抗爭が収まらなくなり、有力御家人の梶原景時114000、比企能員??1203、畠山重忠116405たちが次々と滅ぼされて、鎌倉幕府の實權は北条氏に掌握されていった。
二代將軍源頼家118204がその獨裁的態度で御家人の反撥を招き、伊豆修善寺に幽閉、暗殺された後、北条時政113815･北条義時116324の父子は源實朝119219を三代目將軍に擁立、その執権となって權力を掌握した。
1209承元三年、その義盛が「一生の餘執」として上總の國司を望むが、尼御臺の北条政子115725は頼朝以來の慣例に反するとこれを拒絶した。

1213建暦三年、頼家の遺児、千壽を擁立して北条氏打倒をもくろむ陰謀が發覺。これに加擔したとして義盛の子息や甥などが捕縛された。この時、義盛は上總國伊北莊に行って留守であった。鎌倉に戻った義盛は將軍實朝に一族の赦免を嘆願、義盛の多年の勲功に免じて許された。翌日、義盛は和田一族九十八名を引き連れ、御所南庭に列座して甥の胤長の赦免を懇願した。大江廣元が、胤長は張本人なるがゆゑに許されないと申し渡し、一族の面前で胤長を引き立てた。和田一族はおほいなる恥辱を感じた。
胤長は陸奥國への流罪ときまった。これを識った胤長の幼女が病み、死んだ。和田一族の恨み辛みは執権の義時に集まっていった。
罪人となった胤長の鎌倉の邸は沒收となった。義盛は罪人の邸は一族の者に下げ渡されるのが慣例と將軍に請ひ、受け入れられた。義盛は邸に大寒を置いた。ところが、義時はその邸を泉親衡の亂に功績のあった者に與へるときめ、義盛の大寒を追ひ出した。義盛は擧兵を決断した。
この擧兵への反對者が身内から出た。實朝の謹愼で義盛には孫になる朝盛が主君に弓矢は向けられぬと剃髪出家して、鎌倉を出奔した。これを義盛は激怒し、連れ戻した。かうした騷動が、義盛擧兵の噂を掻き立てた。
事態を憂慮した將軍實朝は使者を義盛の館に遣はし、眞意を問ひ質した。義盛は「上には怨みはござらぬ。たゞ相州の仔細を問ひ質さんがために用意してゐる」と答へた。義盛は縁戚の横山黨、波多野氏、それに本家筋の三浦義村??1239にも聲をかけた。義村は祈請文を書いた。

五月二日（1213/0523）、義盛異變の通報が大江廣元に報じられた。廣元は急ぎ御所に參じた。
同じ頃、義時のもとに三浦義村からの義盛擧兵の報が届けられた。この時、義時は碁盤に向かってゐたが、慌てず騷がず、烏帽子裝束を改めて御所に參上。尼御臺と御臺の女方を鶴岡八幡宮に避難させ、大倉御所の警護を采配した。
夕方、和田一族は決起した。百五十騎を三手に分け、大倉御所･義時邸･廣元邸を襲撃した。義時邸も廣元邸も蛻の殻であった。
酉の刻、大倉御所を圍み、火を放った。攻防が始まった。そこに三浦義村が驅けつけた。
炎上する御所から將軍實朝は辛うじて脱出し、法華堂に逃れた。
攻防は長引いた。幕府方には次々と加勢が現れ、和田方は兵馬ともに疲勞し、矢種も盡きた。由比ヶ濱へと退却を始めた和田一族を幕府方は勝ちに乘じて攻め立てた。
いつしか夜が白み始めた頃、由比ヶ濱に終結してゐた和田一族に横山黨三千騎が参着、息を吹き返した。
朝八時頃になると敵味方の定かならざる軍勢が武蔵大路から稲村ヶ崎に陸續と押し寄せ、これに幕府方は狼狽するが、文官の大江廣元は將軍の御教書を作らせ、使者を立てた。彼等は幕府方に就いた。
十時、和田横山軍は鎌倉に突撃をかける。が、次々と現れる新手に疲弊していく。
夕方六時、義盛の子、義直が討ち取られた。これに悲歎した義盛は「今は戰ふ甲斐もなし」と號泣、そこに敵の郎黨が襲來、義盛を討ち取った。他の子息らも討ち取られていった。横山黨も潰走した。
合戰後、晒された首級は二百三十四にのぼった。
義時は義盛に代はり侍所別當を兼任し、それまで兼任するところの政所別當とあはせ、幕府の實權のすべてを掌握し執權體制を確立した。
事件後、この事件の發端を作った泉親衡の陰謀事件の關與者は、和田氏一族を覗き悉く釋放され、この變事が義時の陰謀であったことを物語ってゐる。

1919(大正08)/0523：和辻哲郎『古寺巡禮』出版
｛昔、「明日等」の構想造形のために興福寺の阿修羅像の「發見史」的なメモを作ったことがあった。
保田與重郎191081の『問答師の憂鬱』といふ彼の四番目となる小説があり、彼が主宰する雑誌に一九三二年六月に發表されたものだが、そこで彼は和辻哲郎188960の『古寺巡禮』の「問答師（阿修羅像などの制作者とされてゐる」にかんする記述、なかんづく和辻が阿修羅像を一顧だにしなかったことに不滿を抱いてこれを作ったらしい。｛たしかに阿修羅像については全然振れてゐない。 すると、保田のこの小説が最初の阿修羅像發見となるのかも知れない。
堀辰雄190453の『大和路』に「切ない眼差し」の阿修羅體驗があるが、これは一九四三年の制作である。
保田も堀同様、いや堀以上に折口信夫188753と深い内因關係を持ってゐた。
折口の『死者の書』は保田の大津皇子を取り上げた『桂冠詩人の御一人』に刺戟されたもの、と聞いてゐる。
折口に阿修羅像關連の記事はないだらうか。調べてみる必要がありさうだ。
