毎日毎日、古今東西の歴史を眺めれば、記しておきたいやうな出來事や忘れたがたい人々の生死が目に入ってくる。

人はどこから來て、何者であり、どこへ行くのか ――　　

歴史の終りに生まれあはせた者の特權といふか、義務のやうにさへ思はれてきたのであった。それを成せよと言はんばかりに、それを爲すに便利な環境も整へられてゐる。まづは、私自身の集大成のために、こんなことを始めてしまったのである。

今日の私の生者は、細川幽齋153410、
細川家の始祖となった戰國時代の武將だが、私はこの文武に優れた趣味人（或種のルネサンス人的役割を同時代の戰國大名らにはたした）によって戰國時代を見ようとしたことがあった。
若い頃の名は長岡藤孝。室町幕府最後の將軍、足利義昭153797に仕へることから、下剋上の始まった戰國の時代に歩み入り、織田信長153482に誘はれて主君を捨て、僚友となった明智光秀152882の娘、玉を嫡男の忠興にためにもらひ、近い縁戚となりながらも、光秀の謀叛に（何度も誘はれながら）應じず（應じてゐれば光秀に勝ち目はあっただらうと私は思ふ）、光秀を討った秀吉に仕へ（もうその時には忠興に家督は讓ってゐたが）、秀吉が天下人として榮え、衰へ、徳川家康154316の手に移っていく ―― 戰國時代の始まりから終りまでを見屆けたこの人物によって、日本にとってはもっとも例外的な下剋上の戰國時代を見詰めてみようと思ったのである。

アベラルとくれば（下世話な下衆には）エロイズだが、
中世の神學者のなかでも抜群の存在であった Pierre Abélard 107942、は自傳のなかで Héloïse 109064 を誘惑したと記してゐる、らしい。彼は彼女を妊娠させ、その後すったもんだのあげく、エロイズの縁者につけ狙はれ「罪を犯した所に罰を受けた」。

アベラルは『三位性と一位性について』を著し獨自の三位一体論を示したが、これがソワソン公會議1121で問題視され、異端宣告された。

1125、招かれてブルタニュの修道院の院長になった。そして、1132頃、エロイズとの戀愛について友人に書き送ったりして、ふたたびパリに戻るが、「普遍論争」でベルナルドスと對立し、1140のサンス公會議でも異端を宣告された。

死後、アベラルとエロイズは、偕老同穴、同じ墓に埋葬された。
