父は文章生の源國經。石清水八幡宮元明の養子となる。禪林寺の七世住持で中興の祖とされ、禪林寺別稱の「永觀堂」は彼に因む。

十一歳、禪林寺の深観に師事し、受戒後、東大寺の東南院に住して三論教学を学び、その他、法相教學や華嚴教學にも通じた。
この頃から淨土經に歸依して一萬遍の念佛を日課とし、1062康平05、淨土教布教のため、1072延久04、禪林寺に戻り、寺内に「薬王院」を設け、病人救済などおこなった。
1082永保02、五十歳になった永観が日課の念仏を唱へつゝ本尊の阿彌陀如來の周りを行道してゐると、阿彌陀如來が須彌壇を下りてきてともに行道を始めた。驚愕した永觀の行道の足が止まると、阿彌陀如來は振り返り「永観遅し」と叱ったといふ。よって、禪林寺の本尊の阿彌陀如來立像は顏を左に曲げた獨特の姿をしてゐる。｛私はこの逸話が大好きだ。

永觀は往生講や迎講など修したり、悲田院など救濟事業をおこなひ、淨土經の布教に努めた。ために専修念佛の先驅者として、淨土宗において「淨土宗八祖」の一人に數へられてゐる。

彼の信念は「王権の拡大」と「盛大への意思」、フランスはあらゆる国の上に立つべく強大にならねばならないとの確信であり、これに反する者はすべて「国家の敵」と見做し、徹底的な排除をおこなはなければならないとし、「信賞必罰など必要なし。必罰だけで十分」と標榜した。

徳川時代の幕臣。出自は三河鈴木氏の支流、則定鈴木家の鈴木重次の三男。武士で後に禅僧となった鈴木正三157955は実兄。
重成は徳川家康154316、その嫡子徳川秀忠157932に仕へ、大阪の役に從軍した。
1673寛永14、島原の亂にも從軍、原城攻撃に参加。一番乘りを顯彰され、戦後、天領となった天草の代官を命じられる。その時の天草は前代の惡政と切支丹の亂により荒廢と疲弊をきはめてゐた。この復興にあたった重成は檢地をやり直し、またキリシタン對策に禪僧となった兄、鈴木正三157955の助力を請うた。

1653承應02、江戸の自邸で死去。その死については、幕府への抗議のための自刃といふ話が廣がり、噂はもっと過激に「江戸城の門前で切腹した」とまでなった。
抗議の自決であったかどうかは不明だが、いづれにしろ、幕府はそれまでの尻の重さとは打って代はって、天草の年貢米の減免をおこなった。ために、天草では「鈴木神社」が建立され、石塔も多く建てられた。といふが、史實の点では疑問の点がある。

One of those conferences resulted in his famous work On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and The Heroic in History where he explains that the key role in history lies in the actions of the "Great Man", claiming that "History is nothing but the biography of the Great Man".

ボルタはガルヴァニの実験からさらに研究を進めて電池を発明した。ガルヴァニの名はガルバニ電池としても残っているが、ガルヴァニ本人は電気は生体が発するものと考えてゐた。生気論を尊重していたため、「動物電気」は筋肉内で発生するものと信じていた。
同じイタリアの同時代人ながらボルタは逆に「動物電気」を物理的現象と捉え、二つの異なる金属(メス)をカエルの足を通して触れあはせることで発生すると考へた。
両者は論争となり、1800年にボルタが電池を發明して勝敗がついた。
