今日が誕生日のフランスの詩人にして外交官でもあった Paul Claudel 196855 はフランス大使となって大正末期から昭和のはじめにかけて日本に滯在し、成熟した詩人の新鮮な眼差しで異國の日本文化を觀察し、貴重な日本文化論を『L'Oiseau noir dans le Soleil levant 昇る朝日のなかの黒い鳥』といふ印象深い題名を付けて一册の書物にして世界に紹介した。
そこには、日本人にとってはまるで異質な感覺による日本についての本質を衝く觀察、といふよりも深く「洞察」がなされてゐる、やうに私には感じ思はれた。彼は駐日大使といふ特權的立場もあって、日本の奥深い所まで現場において經驗ができたのであった。
その彼が、日本を離れ、歐米相手に戦争を始めた日本が敗色濃厚となっていく昭和十八年頃、パリの夜會の席で「私にはどうしても滅亡させたくない民族がある。それは日本人だ。あれほど古い文化をそのまゝ現在に傳へてゐる民族は他にはない」と語り、そして、最後にかう附け加へたといふ「日本人は貧しい。だが、高貴だ」。
その日本を決定的な敗北にまで追ひ込んでゐながらアメリカは原子爆彈を投下した。ヒロシマに、たてつづけにナガサキに。死者に鞭打つごときなんといふ反人道的、非人間的決断と実行。
アメリカに、歐米によって滅ぼされた日本、と明治以降の日本について私は思はざるを得ない。二度に渡り、日本は西洋に「おかされた」のだ。日本人はその形骸を殘しながらも体内被曝したかのやうにその中身は破壞された。
敗戰後、死に物狂ひでがんばって小金持ちになった日本人について（その勞は多としながらも）私はやはり云ひたくなる「日本人は豐かになった。だが、高貴ではなくなった」。
あれほど憂憤の志士にみちてゐた日本に今やそれらしき一人の姿も見ない。
獨立自尊の氣概なく、世界の現實に盲從し、エコノミックアニマルと化し、ヤマトタマシヒぬけて、祖國忘失、ハイマトロスのデラシネとなって、そのことについての自覺すらなく、明日に迫りくる日本破滅も知らん顏に終りなき日常を茹でガエルあるいは冷えガエルになって過ごしてゐる、 ‥‥

Wikipedia 「承久の亂」承久3年（1221年）5月14日、後鳥羽上皇は、時の執権・北条義時追討の院宣を出し、山田重忠ら有力御家人を動員させて畿内・近国の兵を召集して承久の乱を起こした[6]が、幕府の大軍に完敗。わずか2ヶ月あとの7月9日、19万と号する大軍を率いて上京した義時の嫡男、泰時によって、後鳥羽上皇は隠岐島（隠岐国海士郡の中ノ島、現海士町）に配流された。父の計画に協力した順徳上皇は佐渡島に流され、関与しなかった土御門上皇も自ら望んで土佐国に遷った。これら三上皇のほかに、院の皇子雅成親王は但馬国へ、頼仁親王は備前国にそれぞれ配流された。さらに、在位わずか3ヶ月足らずの仲恭天皇（当時4歳）も廃され、代わりに高倉院の孫、茂仁王が皇位に就き、その父で皇位を踏んでいない後高倉院が院政をみることになった。

≫ アウシュヴィッツの後で詩を書くのは野蛮だ。――『文化批判と社会』1951
この有名となった語の意味が私には全然解らなかった。アウシュヴィッツと詩が野蠻さで関係づけられるのは、それこそシュウルレアリスティックですらあった。それが、今回、いくらか（有名になった）事情が明らかになった。Wikipedia ja の記事によれば ――
1963年1月、雑誌『ディスクス』上でクラウス.Chr.シュレーダーは、アドルノは「ミニマ・モラリア」で「アウシュビッツの後ではドイツ詩はもはや書くことが不可能であると書いたが、ユダヤ人虐殺を仄めかしたシーラッハの詩を賞賛していたこととどう折り合わせるのか、また戦後アドルノはナチの共犯者を断罪してきたが自分の過去の言動については口を拭ってきたではないかと質問した。この公開質問に対してアドルノはその論評を書いたことは「慙愧にたえない」が、理性的な読者ならあの論評は「新しい音楽」を弁護したものであり、「善意からのおもねりとして理解すべき」であると弁明した。また月刊ムジークは非政治的な雑誌であり、アドルノはその論評を書いたすぐ後の1934年夏にはナチスに自発的に協力することはやめたし、内奥の核までファシストであるハイデッガーと私を比べることはできないと弁明した。 ハンナ・アーレントはヤスパース宛書簡で、アドルノの弁明について「言いようもなくみっともない」「真に破廉恥な点は、純ユダヤ人のなかでは半ユダヤ人の彼が、あのときの一歩（ナチスの機関誌に批評を掲載したこと）を友人たちにまったく知らせずに踏み出したこと」と批判した。アーレントがアドルノに対して嫌悪感を持った理由としては、アドルノがナチスに迫害されたベンヤミンを生存中に支援しなかったことや、アーレントから見るとアドルノはユダヤ人と左翼知識人に対する背信者であったことなどが挙げられている。カール・ヤスパースもアーレント宛書簡で「なんたるぺてん。彼を読んだかぎりでは―才知に富み、計り知れぬほど多くを知り、あらゆる角度からすべてを吟味しつつ、叡智の最高の高みから書いているような著作にすら―なに一つ信用するに足るものはない」とアドルノを酷評している。tps://is.gd/83THX7
それにしてもどうして「アウシュヴィッツの後で詩を書くのは野蠻」なのか、私には解らない。むしろ、アウシュヴィッツの後だからこそ詩を書くべきべきなのではないか、それこそ野蠻となって。ひとまづ、アウシュヴィッツといふ或意味きはめて人間的な行動にたいしての対抗できる手段は詩作くらゐしかないのではないか。人間性の極端と極端、それを重ねあはせて、いはばメビウスの輪を作りだす結び目としての詩を作るべきなのではないか。無論、それは過去の詩作とは異質なものとなるだらう。しかし、それはアウシュヴィッツ、そしてヒロシマナガサキを體驗した後の人間の、人間性の恢復のために必要な作業なのだ。
